Ecocentricity – One Stop Shopping that’s Unique, Local and Green

It’s December 12th and I’m finished with my Christmas shopping! No, it’s not a bunch of gift cards smarty pants.

I took the Light Rail to the McDowell stop and went to Ecocentricity, the best little urban store for unique, locally made, green Christmas gifts that happen to be affordable. In fact, now through Dec 31, you get an additional 10% if you bus, walk or Light Rail your way there. Who knew helping people and buying local could be so easy?

The owners promote local artists who use environmentally friendly products. Their shop also features consignment furniture giving them a second life. The mission statement is reuse, repurpose and reinvent.

Some fun stocking stuffers include reusable bags from b.happybags, Grow-a-Notes, Christmas cards from recycled blue jeans with wild flower seeds embedded in the cards, to “Sin” cookies from . Yes, I ate my first box, so now I have to go back for more.

Ecocentricity has whimsical hair accessories from Alli Reau Veau, all natural skin care products from Naturoli, homemade soaps pressed with natural olive oil and candles made of 100% Soy Wax.

I saw the most amazing jewelry crocheted with reused wire (see pics). You’ll be the hit of your family with these unique gifts and the great news is Ecocentricity uses their proceeds to help the homeless with local resources to take them off the streets and back into society. There’s even a wall of pictures of people that have been helped and are now getting their GED’s, learning life skills and in their first apartment because of this little Green Store.

The owners say it’s all about one person at a time. They can’t cure everything, but they can help provide resources that put people back on track.

If you want to use your gift budget wisely, I highly recommend you make Ecocentricity you first stop!! Just say Daisy sent you.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!!

The New Tri-State Area

Well, I’ve just completed a trip to Las Vegas (yes it was for business and yes, I played a few penny slot machines) and I have to tell you about the newest Tri-State realty outfit.

It’s called Realty One Group (yes I just joined a month ago) and I believe it is going to be a game changer for both sides of the aisle.

What does that mean? It means that agents now have a place to refer their clients in three states, California, Nevada and Arizona without leaving the office.

It also means state of the art tech support, paperless exchange ( yeah!!) and offices all over the map where you can bring your clients without paying an arm and a leg!! In my mind, it’s storefront meets Star Trek (ok, maybe too many slot machines in my head) while keeping the human touch alive and well.

I met with Dave Tina at the Green Valley Office in Henderson, Nevada last week and even though he had only been at that office 5 days – he just completed setting up another office in Southwest Las Vegas – he took the time to meet with me and explain a little about Realty One Group.

Realty One is a Fortune 500 Company (meaning they know how to run a business) and the general manager ran the top office for Coldwell Banker on the east coast before heading out west.

Dave said the goal was to take the time to meet the agents and help them achieve their goals by building a more efficient office which includes training centers and work stations for agents as well as offering a “hands-on” approach to vertical integration.

I don’t know about you, but to me real estate is a people business and it usually involves one of the largest investments a family will make in their lifetime. I want to be there to help with making that decision and transaction as smooth as possible.

Now that I have a network of offices working together, I know that my team just expanded and so does my worth to you, my clients.

In 2011, I hope you’ll look to Realty One Group and Daisy Anderson, your “go-to” gal, for all your real estate needs.

Happy New Year!!

After the turkey, what to do with your loved ones???

OK, you’ve eaten everything on the table and you’ve watched all the football any human ever could and company is still here!!! Now what??

Saved by the Herberger Theater! Put on your sweater and take the folks to a plethora of entertainment!

There’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom for the jazz fanatic, starring renowned recording artist Jevetta Steele as Ma, which runs through Nov. 28th, or perhaps a little Lunch Time Theater cabaret show, A Dreamer’s Holiday at The Kax Stage, starting December 7th.

Of course, the holiday start wouldn’t be complete without the classic Nutcracker by Ballet and Friends which runs Nov 26-29.

All this close to the light rail and in your own backyard!!
What a great city we are with all this growth in the arts right under our nose.
Go out and support it Phoenicians.

Clarke Riedy Exhibit at the Herberger

Just one week after a spectacular grand re-opening, the Herberger is back and on top of its game!

Tonight Clarke Riedy, the 2009 curator for the Herberger Art Gallery, opens his one man exhibit “Behind the Scenes, In the Sculpture Studio”, a rare opportunity for the public to see things they never get to see from the artist.

Speaking with Riedy during a break from putting the finishing touches to his opening tonight, we discussed his thoughts on his work as a sculptor.  “85% of the work is never seen by the public and I wanted to show the process” said Riedy.

Over 300 digital displays will be featured, such as pastel color compositions on slate, so the digital file becomes the medium. These drawings have qualities that explore the thought process rather than the finished product.  Riedy says “the very best efforts of an artist have to do with the tactile response.  My finished sculpture is cast in bronze, but in the step before that I can translate my thoughts and feelings more in clay, working right from the fingertips, which allows more nuance with the subject.”

Clarke Riedy’s work has included many public art sculptures and in this new digital medium. He feels it is a wonderful technique to work in large scale digital murals. The sculptor is currently being considered for several grants to bring his work to more public places.

Riedy says, “The art experience is not so much one of concepts as of vivid perceptions”.

Truly a statement for modern times.

The exhibit opens tonight with a reception from 5:30 to 7:00 and continues through Oct 31, 2010.

Mr. Riedy welcomes comments and questions which can be directed through his e-mail
